Galatine Candy

Just finished the first show of "Man of Letters". Today is the opening show of MOL and the show was specially set aside for NUS students and staffs. Heard there was more than 1000 tickets given out free for the NUS community.

Anyway, the show was fabulous! I really like the feel of being live. During our rehearsal, because there was no audience, so whenever there is funny part of the show, not much response from audience so can't really feel great with the funny element. However, today with all the audience (full house in UCC Hall), the feel is totally different...you can feel those funny part even funnier....great!!

Here is another little story during the full run this afternoon:

Karyn, one of my 2nd violin section players brought us some candy and pass it around 1st and 2nd violin. Mr. Iskandar, our conductor also get to eat one.... the candy is Galatine ciocolatte

I was sitting together with Karyn at the most front row and conductor was just right infront of us. After the full run, Mr. IS (they all called him IS) stunned us...

IS : "Miss, you still got the sweet? very nice leh"
K : "oh...i gave out all already"
IS : "very nice leh...i like it....is it chocolate?"
me : " hmm....ya..think is white chocolate"
IS :" hmm....later eat liao get fat how? but i somehow getting more concentrated with music after eating that.."
me & K: " hmm...okay..(donno what to say)"
me: " she (pointing to Karyn) is going NTUC to buy some more tomorrow.."
IS :" Oh...NTUC har...okok...next time i must go find also.."
IS: " (looking at the sweet paper) what is this called? oh..Galatine...ok..next time i go find.."

After the show, Iskandar reminded Karyn:
IS :" tomorrow....the chocolate har...ok?!"

totally stunned.....so cartoon Mr. Iskandar

Galatine Candy: Made from 80 per cent partially skimmed milk, this crunchy Italian sweet contains no artificial colouring. Available at supermarkets and convenient stores in two flavours: chocolate and yogurt & berries. Price: $2.85 (115g pack), $1.95 (50g pack).

Man of Letters

Having a break right now from the Musical "Man of Letters". (music: Forever Yours playing in the background). The show is going to starts later at 8pm, we just finished the Full Run and now having a dinner break.

Taking about this song "Forever Yours", immediately relate to one of the role - Mona!! She is one of the best sub-role in the musical... Mona is a sexy cabaret singer, like a mamasan in the cabaret who has certain say in the cabaret and she likes "virgin flesh" (Freshie from school).

Got one scene very funny, she tried to seduce Ming, the lead actor, in his room. Ming is like a nerd who is Sooo shy infront of her...and the whole conversation is so funny that even the orchestra players in the orchestra pit can't stop laughing, some even almost forgot to come in for the next piece.

Anyway, i would recommend this musical to anyone, this is quite a nice musical with funny element, as well as some important history and of cause, a very touching love story.

For more infomation, please go to this website, you can listen to the sample of the music there also.

BUsy with music

Again, now is my busy period for music stuff... last time i always feel that i am a part time student - full time entertainer/musician. I spent quite alot of time taking up Gigs, rehearsal with orchestra, playing with band, teaching violin etc.... since i have graduated(sort of), just wondering should i go into music scene full time or i should be an engineer?

My outside quartet gigs are mostly thru contacts: One of my major contact is Ms Dong Dong. She gave herself this name, maybe sounds more cute..donno. Anyway, she is a china lady who always play Gigs and performance in hotels and functions. She played in TCS orchestra before therefore got alot of cnotact thru those older generation. Whenever her quartet lag of violin or viola player, then she will call me up to play with her quartet.

One thing quite "fun" to play with her is that we never practice beforehand and can just arrive at the gig place 15min before the function start to setup and our performance started. I'll never know what kind of set we are playing. Sometime jazz, sometime modern music, but mostly classical set. I remember one time i was called up to go to National Stadium with my violin, so again donno what i am going to play, i headed to stadium. Then only realise that it was a live shows with full audience capacity of the stadium. The show is "Elvis - The concert" which the original Elvis' band (all americans) play his songs and there was video showing Elvis singing, so is some sort of semi-live concert for Elvis. (Elvis died at his Memphis home, Graceland, on August 16, 1977). see here for more info about the concert.

NUS Symphony Orchestra,(NUSSO) i joined the orchestra before i came into NUS. That time my sister was in the orchestra so i came for audition also. Every Wednesday i'll travel from JB to NUS just to rehearsal with NUSSO and then go back at night. Now is about 5 years already... i have seen quite alot of changes in the orchestra, old faces, new faces, weird faces and some "ugly" faces. I worked clossly with Centra For the Arts(CFA) officers when i was the Logistic Officer (2003) and the President (2004). I can say that i have spent really alot of time doing stuff associated with the orchestra: weekly rehearsal, stock check, production schedule, stage manager, admin stuff, liason duty etc... remember there was a period where i almost work 9 to 5pm for the orchestra...then night time only for my study....

After resting more than a semester, i went back to orchestra again: We have a musical by Dick Lee "Man of Letters". We have about 4 or 5 rehearsal before we combine with the cast members. These few day, there was alot "hoohaa"with CFA ppl because of the contract and the pay issue....well, let's see how it goes.

Minor Vibes is my band's name. We are a relatively new band in the sense that we played together as one band only about half a year. Our members all are hall band member and have played quite a long time ago. Recently we joined the NUS college Rock Fest, and also played in the NUS Open house performance. Of cause, we played in our own hostel, Raffles Hall.

I am the drummer, the singer + guitarist is Riadi and Boon Yong is our bassist.

Our next big project will be playing at the Rock D'Fort, a 3 days event (16th -18th June) by National Arts Festival. We will be playing at the outreach stage, featuring all the local bands and musicians. (We have got the invitation to perform and now is to wait for the confirmation and i'll update more about this again.)

Beside all these, recently i am playing with another 2 person for some Irish Music. We are preparing for the National Arts Festival again. We will be playing in the program called Arts on the move or Music on the move (can't remember) on 3rd June and 10th June at different places.

Alright, i think these are some major events relevant to music in my everyday life now. come to think of it, i think maybe i be a full time musician better? Yes? No?

Dota Hero = drummer?

This is for dota player only....if you play dota you will know what i am talking about...hehe

My gf Tyng once said that the drummer from Blink 182 - Travis Barker looks like a dota hero - Troll...wahahaha..

Travis on drum Troll on..erm..his weapon (axe)

Actually i think looks quite alike especially when Travis plays the drum. He moves alot and his hand is very fast, so like the character of Troll in Dota: Hand throwing speed super fast when cast ulti.

Then Travis got alot of tattoo on his body, so when you look closer to the Troll in Dota, you will see that his body also like got tattoo....

Most important thing that makes them look alike is: Their hair style!!! I realised Troll also comb the hair style so called "punker-hair". Travis is a punk rock band drummer, and maybe that's why his hair called "punker-hair". Anyway...if you remember the Gatsby ads in TV, you probably will know what is punker hair already.

"When you happy then you clap your Hair *clap clap*..."

if you are interested to see Travis on drum, can go to here. There are alot of information about him with some photos and video available.

if you are interested in Dota, here is the relevant forum about this game.
Today is my sister's 26th birthday!! I like to wish her all the best...and stay happy always!

 Happy Birthday my dear sister!
