BUsy with music

Again, now is my busy period for music stuff... last time i always feel that i am a part time student - full time entertainer/musician. I spent quite alot of time taking up Gigs, rehearsal with orchestra, playing with band, teaching violin etc.... since i have graduated(sort of), just wondering should i go into music scene full time or i should be an engineer?

My outside quartet gigs are mostly thru contacts: One of my major contact is Ms Dong Dong. She gave herself this name, maybe sounds more cute..donno. Anyway, she is a china lady who always play Gigs and performance in hotels and functions. She played in TCS orchestra before therefore got alot of cnotact thru those older generation. Whenever her quartet lag of violin or viola player, then she will call me up to play with her quartet.

One thing quite "fun" to play with her is that we never practice beforehand and can just arrive at the gig place 15min before the function start to setup and our performance started. I'll never know what kind of set we are playing. Sometime jazz, sometime modern music, but mostly classical set. I remember one time i was called up to go to National Stadium with my violin, so again donno what i am going to play, i headed to stadium. Then only realise that it was a live shows with full audience capacity of the stadium. The show is "Elvis - The concert" which the original Elvis' band (all americans) play his songs and there was video showing Elvis singing, so is some sort of semi-live concert for Elvis. (Elvis died at his Memphis home, Graceland, on August 16, 1977). see here for more info about the concert.

NUS Symphony Orchestra,(NUSSO) i joined the orchestra before i came into NUS. That time my sister was in the orchestra so i came for audition also. Every Wednesday i'll travel from JB to NUS just to rehearsal with NUSSO and then go back at night. Now is about 5 years already... i have seen quite alot of changes in the orchestra, old faces, new faces, weird faces and some "ugly" faces. I worked clossly with Centra For the Arts(CFA) officers when i was the Logistic Officer (2003) and the President (2004). I can say that i have spent really alot of time doing stuff associated with the orchestra: weekly rehearsal, stock check, production schedule, stage manager, admin stuff, liason duty etc... remember there was a period where i almost work 9 to 5pm for the orchestra...then night time only for my study....

After resting more than a semester, i went back to orchestra again: We have a musical by Dick Lee "Man of Letters". We have about 4 or 5 rehearsal before we combine with the cast members. These few day, there was alot "hoohaa"with CFA ppl because of the contract and the pay issue....well, let's see how it goes.

Minor Vibes is my band's name. We are a relatively new band in the sense that we played together as one band only about half a year. Our members all are hall band member and have played quite a long time ago. Recently we joined the NUS college Rock Fest, and also played in the NUS Open house performance. Of cause, we played in our own hostel, Raffles Hall.

I am the drummer, the singer + guitarist is Riadi and Boon Yong is our bassist.

Our next big project will be playing at the Rock D'Fort, a 3 days event (16th -18th June) by National Arts Festival. We will be playing at the outreach stage, featuring all the local bands and musicians. (We have got the invitation to perform and now is to wait for the confirmation and i'll update more about this again.)

Beside all these, recently i am playing with another 2 person for some Irish Music. We are preparing for the National Arts Festival again. We will be playing in the program called Arts on the move or Music on the move (can't remember) on 3rd June and 10th June at different places.

Alright, i think these are some major events relevant to music in my everyday life now. come to think of it, i think maybe i be a full time musician better? Yes? No?
